Dress your child like Elfsborg…

My team, as you may have gathered by now, are the Scottish side St Mirren – and we used to be good! Maybe not Ajax in the 70s good or anything, but good enough to qualify for Europe and get robbed blind by Rangers in Cup Semi Finals good. We had stars – Frank McAvennie, Alex Ferguson as manager, um…Lex Richardson. Our first trip into Europe back when that meant something was into the UEFA Cup to take on IF Elfsborg of Sweden on the 17th of September 1980, a trip into the unknown, and a chance to pick up some souvenirs…

It truly is another world in Europe – our souvenir shop never burst with colour in that way. We had a gruff wee woman behind the counter offering if she felt like it a free pair of socks with a shirt – no one knitted us such awesome jumpers. Truly ahead of the game in commercialisation, Elfsborg, we salute you….
